NSW: Downturn in numbers but increase in arrests: Adams

SYDNEY, Jan 1 AAP - Three police officers were assaulted and one was taken to hospitalfollowing a series of minor disturbances during Sydney's New Year's Eve celebrations.
The number of arrests, 32 in all, were up this year even though the crowds packingthe city for the late night fireworks show were down on last year.
Assistant Police Commissioner Dick Adams downplayed any suggestion the cancellationof the 9pm (AEDT) fireworks display due to heavy winds had caused revellers to becomemore unruly.
